Your site might look fine on your laptop, but Google ranks the version your customers see on their phones. Our mobile SEO services find where that version loses ground and put it right, from £500 a month.

What our mobile SEO service fixes on your site
From an office in London, First Place SEO provides mobile SEO services to businesses across the UK. We work on the phone version of your site, the version Google uses to rank you. We look for missing content, slow pages, slow taps, jumpy layouts and pop-ups, and your plan works through them.
Plans start at £500 a month.

Since July 2024, Google reads your site like a phone
Google now builds its index from the mobile version of every site, a system called mobile-first indexing. Its crawler, Googlebot Smartphone, visits your pages as a phone would, and the last sites still crawled as a desktop moved across after 5 July 2024. That makes mobile search engine optimisation the work that decides how your whole site ranks, desktop results included.
Google's mobile-first indexing guidance (opens in a new tab) spells out what this means. Only the content on your mobile site is used for indexing, so a section you trimmed from the phone layout no longer counts. Content that only loads after a tap, a swipe or typing is skipped as well. Your titles, meta descriptions and structured data need to match on both versions too.

Five phone problems our mobile SEO agency checks first
Each problem below comes straight from Google's own guidance, and a responsive design can still have any of them. Three are Core Web Vitals, the speed and stability scores used by Google's ranking systems. The most relevant page still comes first, so these fixes work best alongside strong content, and good scores help you win where several pages answer a question equally well. Site-wide technical work, such as crawl budget or a full technical audit, sits with our technical SEO consultants.
Content that only shows on desktop
Phone layouts often hide sections, tables or reviews to save space. Anything the phone version leaves out is invisible to Google, so we list each missing piece, page by page, ready to go back into the mobile layout.
A main image or heading that loads slowly
2.5s or lessLCP target
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) times how long the biggest image or block of text takes to appear. Aim for 2.5 seconds or less. Oversized images and slow servers are common causes, so those are the first places we look.
Buttons that react late to a tap
Under 200msINP target
Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how fast the page responds when someone taps a button or opens a menu. Google's good mark is under 200 milliseconds. INP replaced the older First Input Delay score on 12 March 2024, so a report that still quotes FID is out of date. Buttons also need room, and the guidance is touch targets of about 48 by 48 pixels, spaced about 8 pixels apart.
Layouts that jump while the page loads
Under 0.1CLS target
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) scores how much the page moves while it loads, like a button sliding down just as you tap it. The target is under 0.1. Images without set sizes and late banners are common culprits.
Pop-ups that cover the page
Pop-ups that cover the whole page are the kind Google advises against. A small banner that closes easily is fine, and cookie notices and age checks are allowed. Your offers can stay, sitting in a banner that leaves your content in view.
Phone searches for local services also show a map built from Google Business Profiles. Our help with your Google Business Profile comes with the Growth plan.
How to audit mobile responsiveness and SEO of a website
You can run the first part of a mobile SEO audit yourself, for free. It takes three checks.
- 1
Compare your positions. In Google Search Console, open the Performance report, add a Device filter, choose Compare, and set mobile against desktop. Then open the Queries tab. A query that sits several places lower on mobile points to a phone problem.
- 2
Check your real-visitor scores. Open the Core Web Vitals report and choose Mobile. These scores come from real Chrome users, so they show what your customers actually get.
- 3
Run a lab test. Put a page into PageSpeed Insights, which runs Google's Lighthouse test. The old Mobile-Friendly Test was retired on 1 December 2023, and Lighthouse is the tool Google now points to.
A lab test is one run on a simulated phone. Real visits are what count: three in every four need to hit the good score. So a page can look great in the lab and still sit outside the good range in Search Console. We read the two side by side, which is how we spot what a single score hides.

Your mobile results, reported in plain English every month
Each month, the named specialist who runs your plan sends you a report in plain English. On Market Leader, that report tracks your mobile and desktop positions in Google Search Console side by side, so you can watch the gap between them.
Your report also tells you when to expect each change. Search Console's Core Web Vitals report uses real visits from the last 28 days (opens in a new tab), so a speed fix shows in full about four weeks after it goes live. That way you always know which month to look for it.
Your mobile SEO service starts with a free call. After that we send a proposal, and once you sign, you fill in a short questionnaire about your business so your specialist can start work. You can read about who will be working on your site before you call.
We take one business per niche in each area
As a mobile SEO company, we work with one business per niche in each area, so the firm you are trying to outrank is never on our books. Ask on your call whether your niche is still open where you are.
You also get one named specialist who knows your site, and decisions based on Search Console and Semrush data, so you can see why each change is made.

Is mobile SEO needed if my site is already responsive?
A responsive design is a good start, because it means your layout fits the screen. Speed, tap response and hidden content are separate checks, and a responsive page can still fall short on any of them. The three checks in the audit section above show you where your site stands.
Will I need a new website?
We start with the site you already have, and each problem we find comes with the change that fixes it. If a rebuild ever makes more sense than repairs, we will tell you why, so the choice stays yours.
How long does mobile SEO take to show results?
Fixes show in stages: first in the lab test, then in your real-visitor scores, then in your positions. Ranking speed depends on how often Google crawls your pages and how strong your competitors are, so nobody can honestly promise a date, and your monthly report shows exactly what has moved. Each report also sets out what comes next.
Do I still need AMP in 2026?
No. Google stopped requiring AMP for its Top Stories carousel in June 2021, and AMP pages are now judged by the same standards as any other page. A fast standard page does the same job with less to maintain.
Can my mobile and desktop rankings be different?
Yes. Core Web Vitals are measured separately for mobile and desktop, so the same page can sit in different positions on each. A big gap on mobile is the clearest sign of a phone problem worth fixing.
Where can UK businesses find a mobile SEO specialist?
First Place SEO is a mobile SEO agency. We work with businesses across the UK, and your first call is free, with no obligation.
Every SEO plan is now a mobile SEO plan
Because Google indexes the phone version of every site, every article, page build and fix in an SEO plan is mobile work. So every plan we run works on the version Google indexes, from the first page update onwards.
The same work counts in AI search. AI Mode reached the UK on 28 July 2025, including in the Google app on phones, and a page only needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet to appear there. Good organic SEO and good mobile SEO are now the same job.
